Finding Accommodation

The Wicklow 200 starts promptly at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday 13th June 2004, with preparations for departure from 6:00 a.m. onwards, so if you don't live in or near Dublin you will need to find somewhere to stay the night before. You should book your accommodation as early as possible. Below are some suggestions to help you. The Wicklow 200 organisers have no special arrangements with any of these hotels, B&Bs, or other organisations, and make no particular recommendations about them. You should satisfy yourself about the suitability of any that you decide to use.

The start and finish point of the Wicklow 200 is in the grounds of RTE (the Irish national radio and television station) in Donnybrook. It's on the Stillorgan Road (N11) just south of Donnybrook village, and close to University College Dublin (Belfield). Donnybrook, Ballsbridge, Ranelagh, and the south of the city centre are all within 10 or 15 minutes cycling of RTE.

Note: Accommodation in Dublin is likely to become extremely difficult to find for the weekend of the Wicklow 200. The 16th June, a few days after the Wicklow 200, is Bloomsday, celebrated as the date on which James Joyce's book Ulysses is set. 2004 is the 100th anniversary of the original Bloomsday, so there are many events planned for Dublin during the weekend of the Wicklow 200 and the following week, and many extra visitors are expected in the city. Book your accommodation as soon as possible to avoid severe difficulties (and maybe you'd like to take in some Bloomsday events while you're here).

Campus Accommodation

University College Dublin's main Belfield campus is directly across the road from the start/finish of the Wicklow 200, and their student residences are used for tourist accommodation during June, July, and August. We have arranged a special rate of €25 per night for Wicklow 200 riders and support teams. To book, email Geraldine.Leech@kinlaygroup.ie, or telephone +353-1-269-7111. Mention the Wicklow 200 to get the reduced rate. Book as soon as you can, as the accommodation is likely to be taken quickly.

Hotels

Hotels within a mile of the start/finish include (in no particular order) Jury's Montrose Hotel (Stillorgan Road), Jury's Ballsbridge Hotel (Pembroke Road), the Berkley Court Hotel (Lansdowne Road) and the Burlington Hotel (Upper Leeson Street). There are many other hotels closer to the city centre but still within 15 minutes cycling distance of Donnybrook. Use the general accommodation links below to find them.

Bed & Breakfast

There are a number of B&Bs along the Stillorgan Road close to the start and finish in RTE, and many more within a mile or so. You can find most of them using the accommodation links below.

Finding Others

You can use DiscoverIreland and Ireland.ie both run by Bord Fáilte (the Irish tourism agency) to find officially approved hotels and B&Bs in Dublin city and surrounding areas. Comprehensive information on finding accommodation in Dublin city is available from the Dublin Tourism website. You can also try DublinTourist.com.

The start in Donnybrook is about 2 miles from the centre of Dublin city, so if you stay in the city centre and intend riding to the start you should allow up to 15 minutes travelling time. When looking at addresses of possible accommodation remember that Dublin postal codes are all even numbers on the south side (where the start/finish of the Wicklow 200 is), and lower numbers are closer to the city centre. Donnybrook is in Dublin 4.
